Meet The Team at Pickup Bank Fine Foods in Lancashire

The happy staff at Pickup Bank Fine Foods have been literally hand-picked. Owner Alton Wild recruited family members as the business grew and then asked other friends to come on board, creating a friendly team who know each other well and are dedicated to providing a high quality service.

Alton Wild

Managing Director

Alton, 49, was born and bred in the village of Pickup Bank near Darwen, after which the business is named. He has worked in the cheese industry since he was 17 and bought the business in 1997, recalling that on his first day of ownership, Monday, June 2, he was 'terrified at the responsibility but knew it would be a job I would always love'. He is involved in all aspects of the company from sourcing products through to storage and delivery.

Alton loves every aspect of the job, especially the satisfaction of selling products he knows will please his clients and their customers. He handles product enquires, ensures products get to customers on time and in good condition, and maintains a healthy relationship with all his suppliers. Our company motto, he adds, is 'service to my customers, quality to yours'.

In his spare time, he does DIY and plays on his big boy toys, tractors and a digger, and his secret ambition is to be a dairy farmer.

Lynne Wild

Director

Lynne, who describes herself as not as old as Alton, is mum to their three daughters, also help in the business. She has worked with Alton since 2002. She trained as a dental nurse, starting in 1986 and leaving her job in special care dentistry when her children were born, though she has still kept her skills fresh by working on the emergency dental service rota.

Gradually as the company grew, she worked increasingly for Alton. Her main role is ringing customers for orders and processing orders. She also delivers orders when needed. Her most memorable experience at work is getting a new van after 10 years, then one week later Glenn was recruited and started doing her deliveries.

Lynne enjoys camping and playing the clarinet and supports Liverpool FC.

Becca Wild

Administration

Becca, as the youngest Wild, helps her dad with deliveries and collections, invoicing, quality control and general office work.

She is a great advocate of the company products, describing cheese as her hobby - she has loved blue cheese since about the age of four.

Glenn Botham

Driver & Salesman

Glenn, 62, from Preston, is a former customer of Alton's (he once operated a bacon and cheese wholesale business) who ended up working for him! Glenn owned pet shops and worked in meat plants for many years but was made redundant and offered his present job when Alton heard of his circumstances.

He loves the friendly working environment and the excellent response from customers. Glenn enjoys music and travel. Not many people know this, but he once played a pantomime dame in an amateur theatre production.
